I have a feeling this one is going to get crazy, possibly violent. I would be cautious and come prepared. Travel in affinity groups.

I went to a meeting where the RNC Welcoming committee was discussing the action. There will be three zones. Green for places were people don't want to do anything that may involve arrest, Yellow, which I have to admit, I cant remember but it is higher risk, and then Red which will involve more agressive actions and has a high risk for arrest.

One thing that has been pointed out is that the Secret Service can invoke privileges to take command of the police, and any commitments made by police is off the table.

I would come prepared with gas masks and first aid, even if your not in the red zone.

Also, we need to figure out a defense against those microwave beams (Active-Denial) that they will probably bring out as soon as things get hairy. Do we have any physics students around here?

Yeah. Question is are they going to start with such a large crowd, or are they going to experiment on a small crowd first.

Well, its one of the few events where John McCain will have any say in what happens as a presidential candidate.

At this event the police are going to be unarmored leaving them vulnerable to injury, but the second that happens you can be sure that a special forces riot squad with full armor and possibly live ammunition will be right around the corner.

My advice to everybody involved is not to be the ones provoking the conflict. Self defense is certainly a basic human right, and that is up to each individual to decide when and if its worth it. As a collectivist Anarchist I believe that an injury to one Anarchist is an injury to all Anarchists, and I will even extend that to individualists and the rest of our fellow protesters.

The event could be a critical turning point in how dissent is treated in this country during the next administration. Even more than physical resistance we need strong media, the ability to broadcast live footage so that the corporate media cannot make us look like the aggressors. We need live footage of the police attacking the innocent to gain popular support for a new round of civil resistance like was sparked after Seattle. If the police break their stated promise and go wild attacking people, we need to show that the world.

We should do our best to give the impression of the moral high ground, and reserve self defense for when we are under attack.

The police will still have the armor in the vehicles from what I have learned recently.

Of course, one also has to be aware of provocateurs as you have alluded to.

We are up for very interesting times. And when I say interesting, that is not out of optimism.
